Frogscape
Let’s go Frog Friendly and create a Frogscape!
Don’t you love hearing the frogs croaking to each other? Or the peepers calling in the night welcoming spring? All frogs are toads, but not all toads are frogs.
And what a great mosquito and fly zapper. You will need water, even a small shallow pool will attract frogs, butterflies and birds. Add vegetation in and around the pool for shelter.
Planting flowering plants will attract bugs for the frogs and birds to eat. Garden solar lights will also attract insects at night for the nocturnal species, like the American toad.
Healthy fertile soil will be a home to insects and earthworms. You can use a partially buried clay flowerpot to provide shelter during a hot day. Do not use chemicals in the environment, as they are all sensitive.
Pick a location near a water source so you can easily refill the pond. You do not need a filtration system, but a slow waterfall or aerating fountain will help keep the water clean.
Plant choices are ferns, Joe Pye Weed, Native grasses, Arrowhead, waterlilies, Cardinal Flower, and Iris.
